Seniors prepare for final stretch

After 14 quarters, seven semesters and three years, there is little time left to make the big choice of what’s next.

With one semester remaining for the class of 2014, Baldwin High School seniors are working hard to finalize the year, graduate, and prepare for what’s next.

For some students, everything is all planned out.

“I plan to attend the Art Institute in Kansas City,” senior Leyena Watson said. “There I can learn how to design clothes and after I learn that, I want to move to London and get a job.”

Some are still deciding what to do or where to go.

“I am going to college but I am not sure where yet, but I am really interested in Baker and Garden City,” senior Cornell Brown said, “but I hope to play football in college and major in business.”

While their futures are ahead of them, many are ready to be moving on.

“I’m excited.” Watson said. “I’m ready to start on something I really want to do and love.

Students must also prepare themselves for their next step.

“I am trying to work hard on being more responsible and independent,” Brown said, “because next year I will have to be.”

Seniors are bettering what they plan to do.

“I am taking college classes right now and working on my designs for the school,” Watson said.

With so much going on with decision making, high school will be missed.

“I have grown bonds with the kids here since I was little and it will be hard to leave them,” Brown said.

Teachers talk of the importance of finishing the year strongly.

“It is going to start getting more stressful, so they all need to just relax,” counselor Debbie Baldwin said. “I advise them to finish their academics strongly because they still need that magic 24 to graduate.”

Students must graduate with all the required courses.

“They need to make sure they have their English and their government and fine art classes taken care of,” Baldwin said.

With graduation near, the BHS seniors finish up what is needed in order to say goodbye to high school and start on with the big move to begin the rest of their lives.
