Students at BHS seek culture through International Club

 

International Club is a group which started meeting at Baldwin High School several years ago.the sponsor of the group is the Spanish and French teacher Ms. Moreau.this year 20 members attended the first meeting and they are looking forward a fun year. They will meet eight time during the course 2013-14 in the class number 107 during seminar.

” this is my first year at International Club and I am very excited because it is a great way for students to experience culture together and learn first hand about different countries” Madeline Miley said

The purpose of International Club is to know more about different countries around the world, learning about their culture and the way of life of the people’s who live in the foreign countries. One of the activities that they usually do is to hang out and eat in some international restaurant in Lawrence or Kansas City.

During the year BHS has hosted many foreign exchange students from different countries such as Kenya, Mexican, Sweeden, Luxembourg… And thankful at this club the flags of their countries are representing on the ceiling of the school.

”We are proud about the flags that International Club has put on the school for the arrival of each foreign exchange students’ Ms Moreau said.

There are five exchange students: Dona Sochant (junior) from Tailand, Tabea Trumer (junior) and Nils Drescher (senior) from Germany and Guillermo Fernandez (sophomore) and Raquel Lopez (junior) from Spain. All of them are joining International Club and they are very excited about telling their classmates things about their countriesThe next meetings will feature the presentation of each of their countries, Nov. 17 about Thailand and in October about Spain.

”It will be great speak about Thailand in International Club, because not everyone knows a lot from my country”
