LINK Crew welcomes incoming freshmen, new students

The LINK crew is a group of juniors and seniors at Baldwin High School. Their main focus is the freshmen on their first day at BHS and any new students as well. The freshmen and new students arrive a day early. They get to see the school and play games to help their nerves.

The students involved in LINK prepare for it extensively. Even taking time out of their summer vacations to learn how to become a LINK leader.

Before Freshman First Day, we spent two days of our summer learning how to be a LINK leader,” senior Madeline Miley said.

Miley has only done LINK this year, so these preparations were new to her.

The first day of school for freshmen was Aug. 22. The focal point were on the incoming freshman and calming some anxiety.

On Freshman First Day we spent time with the freshman, making them feel welcome and participating in activities with them,” Miley said. “Also, helping them integrate into BHS.”

Freshmen were not the only people who benefitted from the LINK crew. New students were able to get a look around and get a feel for their new surroundings.

I’ve never been here before and they showed me the school,” junior Raquel Lopez said.

Lopez is one of the exchange students from Spain this year.

Some of the games that were played helped people get to know their fellow classmates.

At first we played games, which was helpful because I didn’t know anyone,” Lopez said.

The first day also helped with the incoming students feeling at home and accepted.

All the new students were able to meet other new students and the teachers before the first day so we didn’t really feel like we were outsiders. We felt more accepted before the first day of school,” sophomore Shyannah Burns said.

Being a part of the LINK crew is highly recommended and is a good experience.

It’s a great way to get to know the freshman class,” Miley said.
