Students compete in the JCCC competitive technology camp

Around 37 Baldwin High School students put their technology skills to the test when they  traveled to Johnson County Community College last Thursday to compete in the JCCC Competitive Technology Camp. There were a total of 34 events that the students could enter. BHS placed third overall within the 4A schools.

BHS counselor Debbie Baldwin thinks that having this camp is a good opportunity for students who do not want a traditional degree.

“It emphasizes the technology field and career choices. Instead of the traditional Business, Language, math and English degrees through college,” Baldwin said.

BHS Art teacher Christy Carlise was proud of the students who placed. Senior Salena Bonnell placed first in Digital Photography and junior Clay Swanson placed second.

“Not only were the students required to create somthing to present, they were also required to verbally present their concepts to a panel of judges in a formal critique setting,” Carlise said.

BHS Business teacher Patty Lenning sponsored a total of six students. Two of the six students placed. Sophomores Ashton Temple and Katelyn Johnson both competed in the advertising graphic design contest and placed second.

“I had a blast,” Temple said. “I would like to find a career in the graphic design department.”
