‘Pack the Track’ to raise money for heart awareness

Pack the Track for Heart Awareness is a student-driven event at Baldwin High School designated to raise money for the Athletic Heart Clinic. It will be on Monday, April 9th, 2012 from 7 a.m. until 11 a.m.

At Pack the Track, participants will register as teams of eight to ten members. Members can be anyone in the community, including students and staff in the junior high and high school. These teams will walk the track continually for four hours.

Junior Caleb Gaylord has already registered as a participant.

“I plan to walk the whole time with no drink break,” Gaylord said.

Gaylord wants people to follow his lead.

“I expect lots of people,” Gaylord said. “I hope a lot of people come out to support BHS and the Heart Clinic.”

Sponsor Danielle Balsman hopes for a large amount of participation as well.

“I am hoping for between 200-300 people,” Balsman said.

Balsman has some registered teams, but she expects more to come. She seems to think that once teams register, more will follow because the information has been presented.

“I wanted to do this because I wanted a student-driven activity more students could get involved in,” Balsman said. “It is a day off (of school) so students can get more involved.”

Pack the Track’s proceeds will be given to the Athletic Heart Clinic. Donations are accepted, and Wes Leonard T-Shirts and bracelets will be sold as well.

At the conclusion of the event, there will be a balloon launch at 11:30 followed by a moment of silence.
