“I’ve been playing baseball since I was about six years old, starting out on tee ball. I played competitively in Ottawa when I was younger and stayed with that until I was around 10. After taking about a two year break, I got back into baseball when I was 12 and kept playing on a competitive team through middle school. Once I got to high school, I continued playing and also played summer ball. I worked my way up to varsity over time. Early on I was more of a floater, but toward the end of my sophomore year I started getting more playing time. Then I played varsity through my junior and senior years. I mainly play outfield now, including center field, right field, and left field, but earlier in high school I played shortstop and second base.
The best part about baseball is definitely the teammates. When something good happens, everyone is yelling from the fence, getting hyped, and just having fun. That energy makes the game really enjoyable. The worst part is probably striking out, especially when you get fooled by something like a curveball, because it can make you look pretty bad. What I will miss most about BHS is seeing my friends every day and being around sports all the time. After I graduate, I plan to just work and see where that takes me.”
