An upcoming baker, senior Trinity McLay aims to become a person who works with food while staying in their hometown, Baldwin City.
“I was involved in three different clubs while here at Baldwin High School,” McLay said. “I attended an environmental club, dungeons and dragons, and even attended a film club. In the film club we watched movies, in the environmental club I really only went to one meeting, and in dungeons and dragons we just played the game.”
McLay has been at Baldwin High School for all four years, bonding with teachers and making new friends. While doing this, McLay learned to step outside their comfort zone and how to be themself.
“The two teachers I believe impacted me while I was here at Baldwin were Mrs. Tannahill and Mr. Stevens,” McLay said. “Mrs. Tannahill taught me about cooking and got me comfortable with talking to other adults, while Mr. Stevens taught me to be myself around others.”
McLay aims to join a college to continue their career of cooking and being around food, continuing their education there on. McLay aims to stay in Baldwin City in the future, possibly even cooking in the town.
“While here at Baldwin High School, I enjoyed the pep rallies, the bash, and overall the school spirit,” McLay said. “I enjoyed the school spirit throughout all of those events, being able to yell at the top of my lungs, and getting food from the events.”
McLay had admired the events Baldwin High School hosted, loving school spirit. McLay mentioned that wasn’t the only event they enjoyed.
“My most memorable thing here was last year’s senior prank,” McLay said. “It was insane, and in my opinion the most memorable of all the events.”
McLay plans to take a break before continuing their education, of course. McLay aims to join a specific college for culinary class, following their dream.
“I plan to take a gap year after graduation, then go to Johnson County community college for culinary,” McLay said. “I plan to stay in Baldwin as well during or after college as well.”
While McLay will miss Baldwin High School, it’s clear that they’re ready to move on to the future. McLay is ready to graduate and continue their life.
“I’ll miss having the tight schedule Baldwin High School gave, but I wouldn’t want to come back,” McLay said.
