Ethan Smasal is a senior at BHS who is preparing to take the next step after graduation. He plans to attend Pittsburg State University this fall, where he will study construction management and begin working toward his future career.
“I’m going to Pitt State next year and study construction management,” Smasal said.
Sports have played a major role throughout Smasal’s high school experience. Being involved in athletics each year gave him something to look forward to and helped shape his time at BHS.
“Sports have been a huge part because I played three sports every year,” Smasal said. “It’s just been a great thing I’ve enjoyed doing my entire high school career and something to look forward to at the end of every day. I love competing.”
At Pittsburg State, Smasal plans to focus on his education while also enjoying the college experience with close friends.
“I’ve got three other friends I’m going down with and we’re going to room together,” Smasal said. “Hopefully have a fun time, join some new groups and get a college degree to set up my future.”
While he is excited for what’s ahead, leaving BHS will be difficult. The friendships and connections he has built over the years will be what he misses most.
“I’ll miss all my friends and the community that I’ve made here,” Smasal said. “Not seeing them anymore is going to kind of suck, along with all the bonds I’ve made with teachers.”
During his time at BHS, Smasal has achieved a lot, especially in athletics. His accomplishments reflect both his dedication and competitive spirit.
“One of my biggest achievements has been winning a state championship in basketball,” Smasal said. “Also runner-up finishes twice in soccer, first-team all-state selections in soccer and track medals.”
As he prepares to graduate, Smasal leaves behind a message for current and future students at BHS.
“Put forth effort in everything you do, in the classroom and in sports,” Smasal said. “Put in as much effort as you can.”
With strong memories, accomplishments and clear goals ahead, Smasal is ready to take on the next chapter at Pittsburg State University.
