BHS welcomes new students this year with open arms. Freshman Ethan Milligan is from Gardner, which is just west of Baldwin. He joined us at Baldwin on Jan. 30 to help us kick off the second semester on a good note.
Moving from Gardner to Baldwin is a big difference in size, considering Gardner has from 25,000 people, while Baldwin has just under a measly 5,000. Baldwin is small, and Milligan likes one thing about it in particular, and so does his mom.
“My mom wanted to live in a smaller town, and my favorite thing about living here is that I can walk almost everywhere because it’s rather small and I tend to walk a lot,” he said.
At Baldwin, Milligan tends to keep to himself in important classes but lets loose when in physical electives.
“If I’m in a class that I need to learn stuff, I like to sit in the back, listen to music, and actually do the work,” he said.“Classes like P.E. and strength, I can actually act out a little bit.”
His Speech and Communications teacher, Michelle Kirk, felt that Milligan had more to him than he was letting on in class.
“He’s very quiet in class, but I get the feeling that’s not how he always is,” she said. “I feel he has a playful side to him, as far as what little bits about him that I’ve learned. He has impeccable music taste, is creative, and seems like somebody who could be a lot of fun to get to know.”
His PE teacher, Emily Green, gets to see a different side of him.
“He’s a great student, very hyper, very energetic, very unique, and brings a lot of dancing into classes, and I love it,” she said.
When asked what classes he’s taking, he added in a small note about one in particular being his favorite.
“I’m taking Physical Science, English 9, Intro to Art, Speech and Communications, PE, Strength, and Algebra 1 is my favorite; I’ve always liked math because it’s easy,” he said.
Milligan looks forward to school for two reasons.
“I look forward to going to school so I can work out and get good grades,” he said. “Right now I have all A’s.”
