Coach Jon Collum has continued to push Baldwin High School student athletes in the BHS weight room. Collum has been teaching at BHS for now 3 years.
“Being in the weight room might be one of the most rewarding experiences I’ve had over my career,” Collum said. “There’s just something about watching kids learn, grow, and compete with themselves.”
Collum has always been determined to inspire the kids here at BHS, but also on other campuses.
“After graduating from college, and taking my first teaching job, I knew right then that I wanted to be a teacher and a coach for my permanent career choice,” Collum said. “I’ve been fortunate to work on several campuses, and multiple age groups over the past 24 years, I truly feel like this is my calling and what I was made for.”
Freshman Sulivan Fincher is currently in Collum’s weight class.
“I enjoy Collums class and I enjoy it because it helps me get stronger and teaches me new workouts,” Fincher said.
Seeing the positive impact that Collum has had on these students is amazing and especially the way his class not only helps with physical strength but also mental strength.
“I tell all my classes that the weightroom is the most honest classroom they will ever be in, because the weights don’t lie,” Collum said. “There’s no cheat codes or chat gpt for lifting. I have been so proud of our students for the effort and growth that I have seen in my tenure here.”
Sophomore Lawrence Jenkins also had Collum’s weights class during the 24-25 school year.
“I enjoy how determined he is to get the job done and to do it right,” Jenkins said.
