Mrs. Marten has been teaching Spanish at Baldwin for her whole career. She is quite popular with the students here. Marten teaches Spanish 2,3,4, and 5. She is also involved in the Environmental Club and Film Society Club. 

How long have you been teaching?

“This is my 16th year teaching.”

Why do you enjoy teaching?

“I enjoy teaching because I enjoy connecting with people and exposing them to ideas that challenge their way of thinking.”

What do you not like about teaching?

“What I don’t like about teaching is how much time it requires outside of the contracted duty day to be successful.”

How long did you go to college, and where did you go?
“I got two Bachelor’s degrees from KU: one in Foreign Language Education and another in Spanish.  I also got my Master’s from KU in Curriculum and Instruction.”

Did you always know you wanted to be a Spanish teacher?

“I did not always know I wanted to be a Spanish teacher.  I knew I liked Spanish and that it would help me with whatever I ended up doing.  Little by little, I weeded everything else out, and Spanish remained!”

What do you do outside of teaching?

“Outside of teaching, I enjoy spending time with my family, watching TV and movies, gardening, occasionally exercising, and traveling when I have the time and money!”
