The responsive services help the community of Baldwin City

Baldwin responsive services work hard 24/7 to protect the Baldwin community and the people, protecting the community and helping us through times of need.  They have taken part in many community events and provide many services.

“There have been many occasions where they helped with something at our house or with our family,” Baldwin City resident Kit Harris said

There are many lines of work in these services and one of them is the SRO for Baldwin schools. Jake Montney currently holds that position for BHS and BJHS.

“I enjoy the SRO position,” Montney said. “As a matter of fact that was a big draw to come to  work for Baldwin PD was the SRO position availability.

Montey enjoys interacting with the students and staff in the school.

“I enjoy it because I love to interact with the students  and talk to them during the day. It’s a very nice thing to be able to do and I like being able to help them through their problems,”Montney said.

There are many jobs in responsive services but one of the biggest ones would probably be chief of police. Chief Mike Pattrick is the chief of police and has been working on the force for 34 years starting in Lawrence, Kansas.

“I lived in Baldwin a long time but I’ve only been chief for about 4 years,” Pattrick said “I first started in Lawrence I worked my way up all the way up from patrolman to captain and I was the captain in the detective division and I spent most of my career in criminal investigations and then I was sheriff and  after that I came to Baldwin and was part time chief and I worked my way up to full time chief,”

Chief Pattrick has had many experiences in Baldwin and feels it is a good place to be.

“The kind of people that live here. This is a great, great city to live in and my family has been fortunate to live here a long time. My kids grew up here and went through the school systems here and we just love the people here. Pattrick said.

Patrick feels that Baldwin is a good place and a good place to raise a family.

“Probably just the close knit tight group of welcoming people, the people that are just here to welcome everybody, It’s a great place to be,” Pattrick said

Chief Pattrick likes to be the chief of police and feels very happy about it.

“It’s  the people I work with at the Baldwin Police Department, they have been fabulous to work with and they have been welcoming of me. I’ve actually lived in Baldwin a long time,”, Pattrick said

Chief Pattrick brings out the reality of being a cop and talks about what it is like and what you should do before becoming a cop. Or if you think about becoming a police officer.

“Talk to people who are in the police force first because it’s really not for everybody,”Pattrick Said. “I think people see tv shows and think they really know what it’s like but until you’ve done it you don’t know it for sure Just talk to officers and maybe ask for some ride alongs,”
