WHERE ARE THEY NOW: Kirk enjoying college life in Texas

What happens when you graduate high school? Some go to college, leave the city, play sports, study the arts such as theater and choir. For Baldwin High School graduate Ian Kirk, graduating is all of this, but better.

Kirk is going to college in Plainview, Texas, and is majoring in theater. He is also working with the broadcast and media people for Wayland for Work Study.

“On Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, my school schedule is from 8- 10:35 a.m., but on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8 – 1:35 p.m.,” Kirk said. “Then, from 3-6 p.m. I have football.”

Kirk played football at BHS for four years, along with basketball and baseball.

“Football is great, but it’s just not the same as playing under the lights on a Friday. It is different, but in a good way,” Kirk said. “I think I’m just now getting into a rhthym, I’m thinking about taking classes in the sports physiology area, to maybe become an athletic trainer in the future.”

Even though Kirk’s life after high school has been exciting, there are still some things he misses.

“The thing I think I will miss most about high school is seeing all my friends all of the time,” Kirk said. “Don’t get me wrong, I have made a lot of friends here in Plainview, too, like I said: it is different, but good different.”

Kirk gives advice to make it in the world.

“I would say that college life is alot different than high school life, and you have alot more responsibilities,” Kirk said. “But the most important hing I can give to you is that no matter how lonely you feel, there will always be someone there for you. Someone who will be glad to listen to what you’re going through.”
