WHEN I’M NOT TEACHING: Smith involved with many activities outside of school

Many students who have attended to Baldwin High School has most likely been taught by English teacher Rachael Smith.

“I think she is a great teacher, and I was glad to have the opportunity to be in her seminar last year,” sophomore Levi Green said.

Smith values the challenges and rewards that teaching brings.

“Every student that walks in the door of Baldwin High she treats them as her own, and I take it personally when they struggle and I celebrate at their success,” Smith said.

Students appreciate the extra effort she gives them

“She’s the only English Teacher that I’ve had that helps me with English,” senior Makayla Johnson said.

Smith has taught English for 11 years. Her favorite hobby when she is not teaching is running around to sporting events for kids, listening to music and traveling.

Smith’s favorite part about teaching is, “watching kids do what they didn’t think they could do.”

She also said that school really does not interfere with going to watch her children play sports or other activities. She said she occasionally stays after school with a student and misses a little of their games.

“I feel like I learned a lot of things instead of handing out papers and not teaching, she took the time to actually teach you,” senior Katie Langrehr said.
