Real World Design teams fifth year win for state

The Real World Design team won the State Real World Design challenge competition for 2013 by designing an unmanned aircraft system that could find a lost child in an area that is a 12 square miles. The team consists of senior Abby Clem, senior Austin Kraus, senior Colton Horne, sophomore Quint Heinecke, freshman Jackson Barth, and freshman Kelsey Kehl.

Real World Design Team will be going to Washington on April 19.

“They will be meeting with Governor Sam Brownback the first week in March to receive a State trophy,” Extended Learning Coordinator Pam Davis said. “Then we will be flying to Washington D.C. all of the expenses are paid for by the RWDC National Challenge on April 19, 2013.”

This is not the first time Real World Design Team has won.

“This is the Baldwin team’s fifth year State win,” Clem said. “The team overall has won two national championship and received one third place.”

The Real World Design Team devotes a lot time to this project.

I am proud that with a new team, half of them who have never worked on the project before, were able to achieve yet another State level win,” senior Austin Kraus said.

The Real World Design Team will be presenting in front of engineers and judges.

“Were going to be leaving on April 19,” sophomore Quint Heinecke said. “We have to present our design to several judges. If were in the top three we present to engineers and other people in the IMAX Theater.”
