New weatherman “Reese Lightning” big hit in announcements

Baldwin High School has its own on-screen celebrity. Reese ‘Lightning” (aka junior Reese Randall) presents a humorous but informative weather report in the daily annoncements. The weatherman has made a name for himself as students look forward to the reports each day.

“My Twitter followers have gone through the roof in these first couple months,” Randall said.

BHS has made Randall one of the most popular weathermen in the system.

“It has really been helpful with my life giving me tons of confidence with the ladies,” Randall said.

The nickname came from the 80’s movie Grease.

“The name is play off the name Grease Lightning and it fits well because I am also fast as lightning,” Randall said.

Randall’s co-star, senior Clay Thomas, has become a star as well. Thomas is one of the many anchors on Baldwin HSTV.

“Reese would be nothing without me and my catchy intro song I made him,” Thomas said

Thomas and Randall have been working together for almost a whole quarter now, and the daily announcements have become very popular in BHS.

Stacy Smith is the teacher of the Broadcast Media Class which puts on the Baldwin HSTV daily announcements.

“Reese’s attitude has been very contagious in the newsroom,” Smith said. “We were not in need of a weatherman. Reese was just here as a student to start off. He demand the spot as our weatherman, so I thought why not? And that’s when Reece Lightning was started.”

Other teachers and students at BHS love the new announcements this year.

“Yeah, it’s a great new twist to the announcements it tells me what I need to be prepared for the next day and it reminds me of the movie anchorman,” Social Studies teacher Jason Crowder said.

Students enjoy how Randall makes the announcements better to watch instead of the same thing every day.

“It’s a good way to let people know about the upcoming weather it gives kids more interested in the announcements,” sophomore Emmett Martin said. “It always makes me smile the way he cracks jokes its a good way to make people smile and enjoy the announcement more.”
