February Staff Member of the Month: Mike Curran

Geometry teacher Mike Curran was chosen as the February Staff Member of the Month.  He was chosen by a committee of students who felt he deserved to be recognized for his efforts to help students learn and understand geometry in his class.

“He makes sure that you understand the lesson and if you don’t get the way he explains it the first time he will try to explain it a different way that makes sense to you,” junior Elena Watson said. “He is also so funny, he kinda makes you forget you are in math class.”

One-on-One Interview with Curran:

How do you feel about being chosen as the teacher of the month?

  • “I feel very honored to have been voted as the teacher of the month.  We have a great staff here at Baldwin and to be given this honor out of all the staff makes me feel extremely lucky.”

Did you expect it?

  • “I could not expect this.  I had no idea.”

How does that make you feel about the students and how they view you as a teacher?

  • “Makes me feel like the students respect and appreciate what I have to teach them.”

Why do you think you were voted as the teacher of the month?

  • “I have no idea what those kids were thinking, but that doesn’t mean I don’t appreciate it.”

Why did you become a teacher?

  • “Teaching is all my family knows.  Both of my parents were teachers and when I was young I knew that was what I wanted to do.  I just followed in their footsteps.”

What are some of your life philosophies?

  •  “If you always work hard, good things will come your way.”
