Minimum wage is too minimal
EDITORIAL

The minimum wage is way too minimal to be liveable. According to Zippa, 1.6 million Americans are working minimum wage jobs. The federal minimum wage is $7.25, according to USA.gov.

According to PayCom 19 out of the 50 states require the federal required minimum wage.

A single mother with two children earning $7.25 an hour would need to work 252 hours every week to barely scrape by and make enough to barely support the family.  252 hours a week is the equivalent of 6 full time minimum wage jobs.

Those who make the federal minimum wage would make an annual income of $14,500, working 40-50 hours a week. According to CNBC, a liveable wage in the U.S. would be $64,000 annually.

Australia’s minimum wage is $14.54, and it is the highest minimum wage in the entire world. With working 40-50 hours a week making $14.54, one would make an annual wage of $30,000.

In America, 88.8% of all minimum wage workers did not attend college, according to Stalista. Those who attended college, on average, make $52,000 a year.

America needs to make the minimum wage more liveable, or they need to make college more affordable, otherwise the poverty rate will stay the same and they will have nobody to blame but themselves.
