English teacher Leslie Jessip is one of the newer teachers here at BHS. She teaches freshman-level Language Arts. She has been here for two years. She has known she has wanted to be a teacher for a long time.
Q: How long have you been teaching?
“This school year is my 10th year of teaching.”
Q: How did you know you wanted to be a teacher?
“I have wanted to be a teacher since I was in Kindergarten. I have always enjoyed teaching people new things and helping them improve their reading and writing skills.”
Q: Why did you want to be a teacher?
“I became a teacher to make a difference in the education system for all students I encounter in my career, whether the influence is directly related to English, school, or even in another aspect.”
Q: What’s your favorite part about teaching?
“My favorite part of teaching is seeing the ‘ah-ha!’ moment when a student realizes the answer to a question, an idea, or a thought.”
Q: Where did you go to school?
“I graduated from MidAmerica Nazarene University (Olathe, Kansas) where I received my BA in English Education.”
Q: Why did you choose to teach English?
“I chose to teach English because I have always had a love for books. The adventures and experiences a person can gain through reading is incredible, so I always wanted a chance to share part of my joy with others through teaching.”
