The girls basketball team has a record of 10-3 and the boys basketball team has a record of 2-9, the wrestling team has a record of 14-7 following the girls wrestling having a 1-0 record in duals.

“This basketball season has been very enjoyable,” senior Carly Fursman said. “This team has been playing very well and has fought on the court. We have a great group of girls out this year. It’s nice to be able to bond so easily with everyone outside of basketball as well.”

Girls basketball has been on a roll this year starting the season with a win against Paola. The seniors on the team are Anna Burnett, Josie Boyle, Kelsey Swonger, Nikki Burnett and Carly Fursman. Boyle has the highest points per game with 11.6. Burnett and Boyle were chosen to be part of the All-Tournament Team for the Top Gun Tournament in Wellsville.

“Our season has been great so far,” Boyle said. “We have a great bond and we work every practice to get better individually and also as a team.”


Boys basketball started off the season with a win against Paola, the score was 50-48. The seniors this year are Matthew Garber, Jordan Barth, Ethan Eckman, Alex Berg and Hunter Peacock. Garber has the leading points per game with 11.5.

“I think our season has had ups and downs,” sophomore Cole Mahaffey said. “We will finish the season off playing as hard as we can.”

Girls wrestling was recently introduced to the state of Kansas and BHS has been on a roll this season with placing second in a Frontier League tournament and beating Gardner-Edgerton High School 66-36 to have a record of 1-0 in duals. The seniors this year are Kayla Mountain, Bianca Luedecke and Addy Flory. 

“I think the girls team is doing amazing especially for it all being our first year,” junior Kayla Powell said. “We have had several girls put up a fight with many placers.”

Boys wrestling ended their season with a 14-7 duals record and had a big close win on senior night against Santa Fe Trail, the score was 38-37. Seniors this year are Bailey Vesco and Lane Anderson.

“Wrestling has been a really good season,” Anderson said. “It has been fun and successful.”
