Zoos not the best environment for animals

Zoos are enjoyed by many people. Most people, however, are overlooking the messy enclosures and bored animals. Most zoos are not taking in injured or endangered animals nor preparing them for release back into the wild. They are simply being kept there for the rest of their lives. These animals are fed and taken care of, but lack the natural processes of hunting, interacting with other animals and surviving as they would in the wild.

Zoos can also be dangerous for the animals and Zoo Keepers. For example, when animals like zebra or gazelles get spooked, they bolt away from the threat. They often end up running into a fence and hurting themselves or jumping out of the enclosure and getting loose. Often when the animals escape the enclosure they are killed by police or animal control.

Some people would argue that zoos are taking care of the animals and taking them in while they recover from injuries. Some zoos like the Big Bear Alpine Zoo do take in injured animals from the wild. They offer rehabilitation programs for animals who would not survive on their own.

Most zoos however do not offer these programs. They make money off of them instead of taking care of them. Yes they do feed them and give them shelter, but they do not give them the freedom they deserve. Out of all the animals I have seen in zoos, all of them, even penguins, look bored. I hope that zoos start caring about the animals and actually help them instead of displaying them.
