OPINION: Athletics have value beyond playing field

Many people play many different sports for many different reasons. There are advantages and disadvantages. I believe that there are more advantages to playing sports.

One good reason to all this is kids can build their teamwork skills, because you have to work with other people. You can not go through a sport without a team. In order to win or succeed you need to work together.

According to the hill.com, student-athletes are able to develop time management skills. They are doing so by spending their time after school for practice and their meets and games take a lot of time especially if you get out of school early for the event. The student-athlete has to find time to do homework and makeup tests.

Students are not all typically healthy, so when a student is also doing a sport at the same time helps you stay in shape and sometimes learn the importance of eating healthy.

When students are in a sport they love doing, they may watch it on television. For example if you love basketball and you want to be like a specific player, that may motivate you to be like that person and be in their spot. Sports can get you into that.

With the student-athletes trying to stay on top of homework and all that, they also have to focus on their sport. During the season their schedule is jam packed with the events and practices that take up a lot of time. While they are getting in shape they really have to focus on their goal.

It takes a lot of time out of their day, but it is very important for them it keeps them out of trouble.
