The BHS band performed in the State Fair on Wednesday, Sept. 10. They earned the top possible score from each and every judge: a 1+.
Each of the band players thought that this was great news. It was a very deserved outcome.
“Everyone made sure that they worked really hard to improve,” senior band major Alli Cramer said. “I think that we did best on our playing, and I know that we’ll still try to improve for Maple Leaf.”
Pretty much everyone thinks the same way.
I asked band director Stuart O’Neil if any other band has gotten all six 1+ ratings before.
“I’ve seen a lot of bands and it’s hard for me to remember, but I just know that this band did great,” he said. “I have had bands that didn’t do as well as this, that is true.”
This is probably some evidence that there were some bands that almost did as good as us, but they probably did not get all six. They could’ve got 4 or 5, but probably not all 6.
“I cooked,” freshman alto saxophone player Everett Nichols said. “I did great, I cooked up. Everyone else for the most part cooked, I can’t remember a lot of big mess-ups, but I’d say collectively, we all cooked.”
Put simply, the entire band deserved it. They all practiced hard, played hard,, and it paid off in the end.
Our band will be performing again at the Maple Leaf Festival on Saturday, Oct. 18.
