Nebraska coach fired, Gaylord reconsidering decision

Senior Christian Gaylord is verbally committed to attend and play football for The University of Nebraska, but head coach Bo Pelini was fired on Nov 30 after 7 years of coaching for the Huskers which may cause Gaylord to change his mind.

Mother Holly Gaylord said she was most proud of what Christian’s priorities are in his life.

“I am most proud of Christian for being a Christian young adult and working hard in the classroom. I’m glad he has God in his life right now to have a higher power to depend on in this stressful time,” Gaylord said.

Christian Gaylord said that he was drawn to Nebraska because he has family that lives there and it’s been his dream to attend and play at Nebraska for a long time.

“I was most interested in Nebraska because my family lives there and the coaches were amazing and it’s just been my dream to play there,” Gaylord said.

Holly said there is more to Nebraska then just football.

“Christian is still a Husker until we hear who the new coach is. He has built so many relationships there with players and coaches because he committed last February. He loves his O-line coaches, John Garrison and Barney Cotton,” Holly said.

“He will stay committed to the Huskers, but will probably take some official visits if the new head coach of the Huskers is not announced soon. Nebraska is still honoring his scholarship.  There is more to the Husker program than just football. The academics and facilities are stellar,” Holly said

As of right now Gaylord is still committed to play for Nebraska until he gets to know, newly hired Mike Riley and see what kind of coach he is.

Right now I’m still committed, but since Bo got fired I’m going to see what kind of coach is going to come in and if things don’t go well I’ll open up my recruiting again but for now I’m still committed,” Gaylord said.

Gaylord will be playing in the Blue and Grey All-American Bowl game in the Dallas Cowboys stadium which airs on TV, Dec.14.
