Chemistry teacher Amanda Lyman is a new addition to the science department.

A new teacher at BHS has made a positive impact on teaching chemistry. Amanda Lyman is spending her 13th year of teaching at BHS, before teaching here she taught at Wellsville High School for 4 years and Gardner Edgerton High School for 8 years.

At Wellsville, I taught 9th grade General Science, along with 7th Grade Life Science and 8th Grade Earth and Space Science,” Lyman said. “At Gardner I spent time teaching 9th Grade Physical Science, Chemistry, and Honors Chemistry.

Lyman teaches Chemistry and AP Chemistry in BHS.

The classroom I teach in is one of the best in terms of size and layout and is the ideal classroom for teaching Chemistry,” Lyman said. “My favorite part about Baldwin are the students. I have a great group of students who are hard workers, respectful, and are excited to learn new material.”

Lyman said her experience moving from school to school has been a positive one. Lyman is loving BHS already.

My family relocated from Gardner to Ottawa and when we moved I decided to use this chance to also move districts. I spent the previous four years working at Wellsville which is a 3A school district,” Lyman said. “After spending four years at Wellsville, the Chemistry teacher that was here last year reached out to me about applying for my current position here at Baldwin.”

It is obvious how much she loves teaching her favorite subject.

I am teaching the subject I love and look forward to leaving my mark on both BHS and the students I am able to teach through my classes,” Lyman said. “Thanks for welcoming me as a Bulldog!

Sophomore Zoe Thomas feels that her experience with Lyman as a teacher has been fun and interactive.

“Mrs. Lyman does more than just give us worksheets,” Thomas said. “We do fun labs and games that help us understand chemistry easier.”
