Welding students put skills to test at JCCC competition

Johnson County Community College hosted a welding contest on January 14th. Students Tanner Schneider, Chance Phillips, Zane Black, Garrett Lang, and Marco Napolitano all competed.

“I think we did OK for the first time competition,” Welding teacher Tom Harman said.

The students participating left school January 14th to go compete at JCCC. The competition was tough.

“We were competing against Eudora, Louisburg, Ottawa, Olathe and Blue Valley,” Harman said. “So the competition was pretty tough.”

The students MIG welded in both flat and horizontal positions. This was their first competition.

“Zane Black received a second place award and I think the rest did a good job also, but they did not tell us what they got place wise.”
