Last school year the Varsity girls basketball team was runner-up at state. For Senior basketball player Kyna Smith, she has high expectations this year for the whole team.

 

“It was an amazing experience making it to state last year. But this year the whole team is really hoping to make to state again this year,” Smith said.

 

The Bulldogs fell to Hugoton in the championship game, 68-54. The loss was hard on the girls but there ready to come back this year fighting to make it to state once again. Even though the team lost five great seniors, Kyna Smith thinks the teams still have great chemistry this year.

 

“Practices are going really well, all the seniors are excited to have all the new freshman joining the team,” Smith said. “The teams have got some great chemistry this year, which will help us big time.”

 

Head Coach Bob Martin is looking forward to their first game so they can show everyone that their back and ready to take it all this year.

 

“We may have lost a lot of height on the team, but we will really take advantages of our strengths, which is quickness. We are going to have good guards this year,” Martin said.

 

Martin was also talking about the goals they have set this year.

 

“Our whole team goal is to get better everyday and by the end of the season be the best we can be,” Martin said. “We also have two tournaments this year and we want to try to win them all. And of course try and make it back to State this year.”
Girls first basketball game of the season starts at 5:30 p.m. Dec. 4 against Tonganoxie.
