The 14th annual BIT was a success for the Bulldogs. With 17 teams entered the competition Baldwin took home the second place trophy for their team. The Bulldogs had 12 placers in the final, including senior Jon Pratt and junior Jake Katzer taking first.

Many people are involved in making the tournament happen, from the managers to the medical team. The tournament takes weeks of planning and preparation. Anywhere from Coach Kit Harris having to schedule and enter teams, to the night before setting up all of the mats.

“The set up for BIT takes a lot of work. It was a combination of almost three days but it was all worth it,” team manager Emily Courtney said.

Wrestling injuries can vary anywhere from a nose bleed to a dislocated shoulder. Baldwin athletic trainer Gary Stevanus has seen them all.

“Formulating a response wrestling is usually more busy than most sports on a blood stand point, due to the number of bloody noses we deal with,” Stevanus said. “Other than that it’s pretty typical like anything else you have to be ready for anything, jammed finger to broken bones, you never know what to expect.”

Senior Jon Pratt took first at the BIT. In his four years of wrestling for Baldwin this is the first year he has taken first.

“The team did good as a whole, I was personally excited to beat the #2 and #3 competitors in the tournament on my way to win it my senior year,” Pratt said. “I’m looking forward to regionals and state, hopefully having high results.”

Freshman Ethan Temple participated in his first BIT and placed eighth.

“It was the best I’ve wrestled all year, and can’t wait to see what the next three years will bring.” Temple said.

The Bulldogs will be hosting a 4A Regional on Feb. 20-21 in the BJHS gym.
