SIDELINE SPORTS: March Madness becomes unstable

The NCAA men’s basketball tournament became one of the most unpredictable tournaments in years with upsets across the board. People have started to put their brackets through the paper shredder.

In the round of 64 top teams were dropping like flies. Duke was once again upset by a team seeded above 13 in Mercer. Tennessee, who had to win a play in game to get in the tournament, upset UMass to advance to the round of 32. Dayton fit right into the glass slipper as they were this year’s Cinderella story beating Ohio State, and then some say to be the upset of the tournament, beating Syracuse to move on to the Sweet 16. The Dayton Flyers won their Sweet 16 game over Stanford but sadly lost to Florida the overall No. 1 seed in the tournament in the Elite 8.

The Big 12 conference ended up not doing as well as some believed they would. Kansas State, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State all were defeated in the their first game of the tournament. Kansas State, though, lost to a Final Four team in Kentucky.

Kansas lost in the round of 32 to Stanford, with the absence of Joel Embiid hurt Kansas. But looking forward next year, Kansas may only lose two starters. Andrew Wiggins and Embiid are projected to go in the top five of the NBA draft, Wiggins has already declared for the draft this

Baylor, the shock of the Big 12 in their bright highlighter colored jerseys, upset Doug McDermott and Creighton to play in the Sweet 16 but lost to the Wisconsin. Iowa State also made it to the Sweet 16 but with an ankle injury to DeAndre Kane in the first round game vs. NC Central. Unfortunately Kane would of been a huge difference maker in the loss vs. UConn who is now in the Final Four.

Florida, UConn, Wisconsin and Kentucky are all heading to Arlington, Texas to play for the national title in the Final Four. Florida the only number one seed left in the tournament will play UConn, a 7 seed that has battled through some of the toughest teams in the tournament such as Villanova, Iowa State and Michigan State.

Wisconsin, the second seed in the West region, will match up against Kentucky, who beat the only undefeated team in the tournament in Wichita State. Kentucky is the only team to beat three teams in the previous Final Four, which were Wichita State, Louisville and Michigan.

I predict that Florida will roll over UConn to advance to the championship game to face Kentucky who will beat Wisconsin in the second game. Florida, who plays a fast paced game under coach Billy Donovan, will be going at full speed vs. Kentucky but the young talent that Kentucky puts on the floor will be a huge challenge to Florida.

I believe Donovan will have his team ready for anything and beat Kentucky to win his third national championship as head coach at Florida.
