This year BHS has four new foreign exchange students from three different countries at Baldwin High School. The four girls that are brave enough to spend an entire school year in a completely new country are Greta Maiellaro, Pauline Sauter, Doina Chilat, and Antonia Lang.

“I decided to do an exchange year because I really wanted to improve my English, learn more about other cultures and change my point of view,” Maiellaro said.

Greta is from Italy and arrived in the U.S. around a month ago. She is staying with the Berndt family who have hosted other foreign exchange students in the past.

“I’m in the volleyball team this semester” Maiellaro said, “and I hope I’ll be on the soccer team during spring.”

Maiellaro is not the only exchange student participating in athletics at BHS, Sauter is one of the German exchange students that is also participating in athletics this year.

“I’m a cheerleader and I would like to do track in the spring,” Sauter said.

They are all involved in various things across the school so don’t be surprised if you run into them at an event.

“I like Baldwin. The landscape is pretty and the people are very nice. And Baldwin looks exactly like Germans thinks a normal American city looks like.” Sauter said, “But it’s a lot different than Germany.”
