In the year of 2014-15, Bulldog sports teams broke the record for most state trophies in the history of BHS. The question is, can BHS sports do it again? Last year, the girls and boys track teams won two state trophies and BHS nearly had a third with softball finishing in fourth place missing a trophy by one place.

BOYS AND GIRLS TRACK

Last year, boys track coming in third and girls track coming in first. For the boys that will be the third year in a row placing in the top three and also the boys have won League for the past five years.

Coach Mike Spielman is excited for this year’s track season. He thinks that track will do as good or better than last year.

“I am expecting a really good year,” Spielman said. “I think that this upcoming year we will be as strong as last year and I am excited for this upcoming year.”

Spielman also said he was looking forward to his returning leaders from last year.

“George Letner, Dakota Helm are great runners and ran last year in State and this year will be a good year for these two runners,” Spielman said.

SOFTBALL

Last year, Bulldog softball had a great year placing fourth. It was the farthest BHS softball has ever gone in the history of BHS.

Head Coach Chad Scoby said he is ready for the upcoming season. He is in his fourth year as head coach of the team.

“This will be my fourth year as head coach,” Scoby said. “I’m excited for the 2016 season, we have a good group of returning players.”

Scoby said he is looking forward to the freshmen group.

“I can’t wait to see what the the freshmen class brings to the program,” Scoby said. “We lost three valuable seniors last year, but we have a number of girls up to the challenge to filling the open spots.”

GIRLS SOCCER

Last year, girls soccer had a record going 7-10-0, finishing their season in the semi-finals of Regionals.

Coach Drew Ising is starting his first season as the BHS girls soccer coach.

“I have been coaching soccer for seven years,” Ising said. “I am excited for this upcoming season, we have a lot of good young talent.”

Ising said Isabel Tiller and Caitlyn Countrymen are two good incoming freshmen with each of them winning Regionals with their club teams.

“I have been playing soccer for ten years,” Tiller said. “I am super excited to play this year because I have always wanted to play with older players.”

Tiller and Countryman play for Sporting Kaw Valley. They both play for the top team and play in Division 1.

“Me and Caitlyn won President’s Cup and went on to win Regionals with our team and this summer we will be heading to Nationals,” Tiller said.

TENNIS

New Head Coach Rick Weaver is starting his first year coaching the BHS boys tennis team.

Coach Weaver is excited for the upcoming season.

“I have been teaching tennis for various classes for about 30 years,” Weaver said. “I have not had much time to get to know the boys as we are just getting started but I am excited for what has to come in the future.”

The tennis team has its first matches against Spring Hill April 5.
