Scholar’s Bowl students prepare for upcoming bowls by reading.

Scholar’s Bowl is a huge trivia game. Set like Jeopardy, students must buzz in and answer tricky questions before the other five or six competitors from other schools do. Hope for the right questions at the right time is strategy.

“The moment when they read a question and you know the answer, is one of the best feelings.” Sophomore Celeste Wallis said.

The team must practice question after question in order to prepare for the bowls. It’s tough work for the participants.

“Sometimes there are days where I don’t like it as much and I think those are when we don’t do as well and I beat myself up over that, but the days that we do well, and we get along with each other, is when I feel like it’s really fun,” freshman Riley Fletcher said.

Wallis has been in three to four bowls and practices after school on Mondays and Thursdays.

“It’s okay, it’s a sport,” Wallis said. “And it gives me something to do after school.”

Math teacher Tom Sigvaldson is the head coach and some of the current competitors this year are Emma Bailey, Tucker Austin, Hannah Spriggs and Brennan Fletcher.

“I hope it’s a good year for Scholar’s Bowl this year,” freshman Emma Leach said, “and I hope the team comes together.”
