The BHS Art Club is already planning for a busy fun-filled year of activities dealing with all different forms of art.
“During every meeting we try to do a different activity to try and incorporate all kinds of art like visual, musical, theatrical, and others,” President Brooke Morgan said.
The members of Art Club have fun in an easy going, relaxing environment.
“I definitely encourage anyone who thinks they might have interest in Art Club to come and join,” Vice President Dani Houser said. “It’s a lot of fun and it’s a great way to come and have fun while expressing your creativity.”
The Art Club is looking forward to getting to go to on some trips this year.
“We are planning on going to New Mexico this year,” President of Visuals Maddie Phillips said. “We don’t have all the details worked out yet, but we are hoping it will be like the trip to Chicago we went on last year.”
While traveling to another state is exciting the Art Club also plans to go to some other events that are more local.
“We got a grant this year to get free tickets to see the Jin Xing Dancers at the Lied Center this year,” sponsor and BHS art teacher Christy Carlisle said. “We also got tickets to the Nutcracker Ballet and we are taking a trip to the Renaissance Festival in October.”
The members in Art Club enjoy the atmosphere of the meetings and use it as a stress relief.
“It’s cool having a club that’s not about sports or academics or more formal, like NHS,” Morgan said. “Art Club is a great stress relief because it’s so fun and easy going, and everyone is welcome.”
Projects done by the Art Club will also be able to be viewed throughout the Baldwin City community.
“We are helping with the Terror Train this year,” Phillips said. “We will also be making the backgrounds of the school musicals this year.”
After getting its start, thanks to former BHS student Stephanie Minor it has taken off.
“I’m truly surprised at how many kids we have participating in Art Club and I love it,” Carlisle said.
The Art Club encourages everyone to come and it is never to late to join.
