BHS students went to compete in either state band, choir or even both. This year more people went to state than the previous years. To be able to go to state you have to get a 1 at regionals on your ensemble.

Some of the students were looking forward to going to state and they were proud of what they had accomplished.

“It was very fun and rewarding experience,” choir member Drew Villaca said. “I was glad I got to experience my sophomore year.”

Students work all year towards getting better for regionals then state. Many of the students see their concerts that they have throughout the year as practice for state.

Students in choir and band practice for many hours. Every day in their class they will go over their songs and fix the problems that need to be fixed. Some of the students practice on their own time so they can achieve their goals on where they want to be in their musical career.

“I practiced every night for at least an hour on my flute,” band member Rachael Fritzsche said. “I went through the parts that were challenging to make sure I got them down.

When you go to state students perform in front of a judge and they will score the performers between 1-5. A one is the best students can get on their performance. The BHS students came home from state with either one’s or two’s.

“I feel like we did good,” choir member Chloe Harris said. “We got a 2 and I think we deserved the score we got because we did well but, there were parts we messed up on.”

They have proven that if you work hard enough you can get good results and become a better musician. BHS students said they were satisfied with their results at state. Now they know what to work on and fix for next year.
