Have you ever been wondering what to play in the car with your hard to impress friends? Or maybe when you’re strutting down the street with your headphones? You need music to show everyone that you have an infinite amount of confidence, and that you’ve “got it going on”. Here are the top five recent swag songs.

Criteria: All songs have been released within the last three years and have been considered top hits. These are songs that you wouldn’t be afraid to blare in your car with the windows down, or perform in a horribly executed manner. Many potential songs were eliminated from this list because they are too cliché or overplayed. Songs including “Teach Me How to Dougie”, “Low”, or “Crank That (Soulja Boy)” might make us all twerk at school dances, but deep down, we wish these songs would never ever be played in our presence. The following songs have been played a lot, but not too much to where you get sick of them.

5. Clique by Kanye West, JAY-Z, & Big Sean

You won’t find an artist that preaches more self-confidence than Kanye West, so it would be inappropriate to leave him out of this list. “Clique” is perhaps the best example of West’s overwhelming amount of arrogance that for some reason a lot of us love. If “Clique” doesn’t portray Kanye West as arrogant, his Twitter follower ratio will, with 10.1 million followers to the sole person he follows, Kim Kardashian.

Favorite lyric: “It’s grind day, from Friday, to next Friday. I been up straight for nine days, I need a spa day.”

4. Function (feat. YG, IAmSu & Problem) by E-40

The start of “Function” by E-40 introduced by the long low bass notes just scream “swag”. The hook of the song is simply “We out here tryna’ function!” repeated over and over again, but that kind of stupidity is exactly what exudes confidence. E-40 has not had a lot of hits in his career, but this song will be remembered for quite a while.

Favorite lyric: “I ain’t got time for playin, I’m just saying man. We out here tryna function, man we out here tryna function.”

3. Gas Pedal (feat. IamSu) by Sage the Gemini

“Gas Pedal”, the most recent song on the list, hit the general public this summer and sustained a top spot in the charts for weeks. “Gas Pedal” is repeated over and over again in the melody. This song is perfect for jamming out in the car because obviously it’s relevant to driving.

Favorite lyric: “Now speed up, gas pedal, gas pedal, gas pedal, gas pedal, gas pedal. Now speed up, gas pedal, gas pedal, gas pedal.”

2. Swimming Pools (Drank) by Kendrick Lamar

“Swimming Pools”, is a top hit that made its way to the general public last year. The repetition of the word “drank”, clearly gives the song the confident flavor and necessary level of stupidity that all of the Top Swag Songs have in common. Here, Kendrick Lamar makes the hyperbole that he has so much liquor that he has a swimming pool full of it, and he will dive in it.

Favorite lyric: “I got a swimming pool full of liquor and they dive in it, pool full of liquor I’mma dive in it.”

1. Mercy.1 by Kanye West, Big Sean, Pusha T & 2 Chainz

“Mercy.1” takes the crown as the swaggest song. The song contains popular phrases and words that many teenagers use for fun. Phrases such as “Lamborghini Mercy” and “Swerve” are popular bits that many adore in the popular hit. Kanye West makes his second appearance in this list, and has been a prominent role to pop culture in recent years.

Favorite lyric: “I work them long nights, long nights to get a pay day. Finally got paid, now I need shade and a vacay.”
